I am a reporter for a nationally syndicated real estate section published weekly in newspapers across the country. I’m looking to interview real estate agents, brokers, lenders, mortgage experts, property attorneys and other housing experts for the following article: IN-PERSON ETIQUETTE FOR REAL ESTATE: HOW TO DRESS AND PREPARE PROPERLY FOR AN OPEN HOUSE, MEETING WITH THE AGENTS AND OTHER REAL ESTATE-RELATED FACE-TO-FACE EVENTS. The TLC show “Buying Naked” (visit tlc.com/tv-shows/buying-naked for details) demonstrates how home buying etiquette between two parties is changing. This story will explore what experts recommend as far as proper attire, body language, and overall etiquette when you're planning to have an in-person meeting with a buyer, seller and/or agent(s) during the home buying/selling process. Below is a list of questions I’m seeking answers to for this story. Please e-mail me back your interest, availability and phone number. My deadline is noon central time, Friday, Sept. 19.
1. As home buyers and sellers, how can our attire, body language, attitude and way we present ourselves influence a real estate transaction, and why are these factors important in any way? 2. What do you recommend as far as in-person etiquette (from buyers and sellers) for an open house, meeting with an agent(s), and other real estate-related face-to-face events? 3. What are some definite in-person etiquette dos and don’ts buyers and sellers should carefully consider, and why?4. Can you relate a personal example that underscores this topic/trend from your experience (e.g., a client who was inappropriately dressed, which affected the transaction)?5. What should buyers and sellers conclude after watching shows like “Buying Naked”? Are we seeing a lasting trend indicating that buyers/sellers/agents should be more relaxed, informal and less concerned with attire/appearance when it comes to real estate transactions, or is a show like “Buying Naked” and neighborhoods like nudist communities representative of the fringe anomaly and not a growing trend?6. What is your hunch: Are we going to see more of a loosening of formalities, dress codes and the like as concerning in-person real estate etiquette in the coming years or not? Why/why not?7. Any other thoughts, tips, suggestions on this topic that I failed to ask about?8. What is your full name, title, company, and location where you are based?
