I am a reporter for a nationally syndicated real estate section published weekly in newspapers across the country. I’m looking to interview real estate experts for the following article, with a deadline of Nov. 18, 2014:
STORY: STAYING-PUT STRATEGIES: WHAT TO DO IF YOU DON'T PLAN TO DOWNSIZE OR MOVE TO A RETIREMENT COMMUNITY. In a new survey of 4,000 Baby Boomer households conducted by the non-profit Demand Institute, 63% of Boomers plan to stay in their current home once they retire (details at: tinyurl.com/k65tg86). This article will examine the survey results and its implications, as well as suggest tips to readers on what they'll need to consider and prepare for if they plan on aging in place--including adding universal design features and convenient senior-friendly amenities to their homes. I’m looking to interview real estate agents, brokers, lenders, remodelers, and other housing experts for this article. Please e-mail me back your interest, availability and phone number. My deadline is noon central time, Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014.
QUESTIONS:
1. What are some key highlights you think are important for boomers/downsizers/retiree homeowners to take away from the Demand Institute survey results (found at tinyurl.com/k65tg86), and why?
2. Why do you believe so many Boomers plan to stay in their current homes once they retire? What factors do you think are influencing their decision?
3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of “aging in place” and remaining in your home without downsizing/upsizing or moving into a retirement community/home?
4. What do you recommend that homeowners should do if they plan to stay in place and live out the rest of their lives in their current homes? What modifications/improvements/changes should they be considering and why?
5. For what types of people (e.g., those in ill health, immobile, etc.) is this “staying in place” strategy not recommended and why?
6. Any other thoughts, tips, suggestions on this topic that I failed to ask about?
7. What is your full name, title, company, and location where you are based?
