I am a reporter for a nationally syndicated real estate section published weekly in newspapers across the country. I’m looking to interview real estate experts for the following article, with a deadline of Nov. 18, 2014:

STORY: A HOUSE DIVIDED: REAL ESTATE STRATEGIES FOLLOWING A DIVORCE OR SEPARATION. This story will examine how a split/divorce will affect real estate matters, including the mortgage, obligation to sell to split assets if necessary, and other matters, and provide tips from experts as to what to expect and what to do/avoid. I’m looking to interview property and/or divorce attorneys, lenders, brokers/agents, and other housing experts for this article. Please e-mail me back your interest, availability and phone number. My deadline is noon central time, Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014.

QUESTIONS:
1. If you’re preparing to separate/divorce from your significant other, what should you be preparing for and expecting regarding settlement of your home/real estate? What factors should be carefully considered?
2. How are most real estate matters resolved in cases of separation/divorce—are most couples forced to sell the home and split the proceeds of the home sale 50/50? Does one partner often buy out the other partner’s share so that the former can remain in the residence while the other moves out? Any statistics that indicate how these matters typically resolve that you can share?
3. What recommendations do you have to couples who cannot work out their differences and must separate? What will they need to consider and do when it comes to the home?
4. What special factors/circumstances should be considered in cases where the couples have children living in the home?
5. If one party decides to remain in the home while the other moves out, what do both parties need to do to ensure that title, taxes and any other key matters are properly resolved so that future tax/legal problems are avoided?
6. In cases where the split is going to likely be very messy (one or both parties are not willing to compromise/work amicably), what should each party expect and prepare to do (e.g., dig in deep and hire an aggressive attorney to try to retain as much personal property as possible)? What tips do you have here?
7. Any other thoughts, tips, suggestions on this topic that I failed to ask about?
What is your full name, title, company, and location where you are based?
