I'm working on a new story for The Costco Connection (the consumer magazine for members of Costco stores) on the following topic:

THE GOLDEN AGE OF WIRELESS: How Bluetooth works, the devices that employ it, and why you need it. This article would explore the benefits of Bluetooth technology for beginners. For this story, I’m looking to interview consumers who use Bluetooth-enabled devices as well as industry experts who are familiar with this technology and its pros and cons. I can either conduct a phone or email interview (with the latter, you can type up responses to my questions below and email them to me). My deadline to complete all interviews is Thursday, October 1 by noon central time.

QUESTIONS:
1. (FOR CONSUMERS): What Bluetooth enabled devices do you own and use? How has Bluetooth benefited you in any way? What do you enjoy about this wireless technology? What advice would you give to other consumers when it comes to purchasing and using a Bluetooth-enabled device? What is your full name, and city and state location? Are you a Costco member, and if so, for how many years?
2. (FOR INDUSTRY EXPERTS): Explain for beginners what Bluetooth is and how the technology works. Also, how is this wireless technology different from and even better than Wi-Fi, infrared, RFID, and other wireless technologies?
3. Please cite a few examples of prominent Bluetooth-enabled devices (home electronics, in automobiles, etc.). How does Bluetooth make these devices better/easier to operate? What is your favorite Bluetooth-enabled device and why?
4. Is it easy for beginners to enable and use Bluetooth in those devices that feature it? What is typically required (“pairing” the device, synchronizing, etc.), and how steep is the learning curve involved here for newbies?
5. Are there any shortcomings or risks with using Bluetooth (EMF exposure, signal interference problems, etc.)?
6. Is Bluetooth a technology that is here to stay for a while, or will something better replace it – if so, what wireless technologies are on the horizon that may supplant it? If not, how will Bluetooth grow and expand or even improve in the coming years? Any forecasts here?
7. Any other thoughts, comments, or tips you wanted to offer on this topic?
