Hello. My name is Erik Martin and I am a reporter for HomeStyle, a nationally syndicated home improvement/design section published weekly in newspapers across the country. I’m looking to interview interior designers, remodeling experts, and homeowners who are planning or have recently completed a living room remodel/makeover for the following topic:
THE LOW-TECH LIVING ROOM: Sometimes it seems there's no escaping TV screens and the trappings of technology. However, a new trend toward tech-free living areas aims to create a calm, conversation-friendly respite in the modern home. This story will examine why it's trending, the benefits and how to set up a space free of digital distractions. Below is a list of questions I’m seeking answers to. I can either conduct a phone or email interview (with the latter, please email me back full-sentence written responses that I can use as quotes). My deadline is noon central time, Monday, June 20.
QUESTIONS:
1. (THIS QUESTION FOR HOMEOWNERS ONLY) Why are you planning or why did you recently complete a living room makeover without digital distractions like a big-screen TV, stereo, computer, or other electronic/digital gadgets? What electronics will you/did you remove? What overall approach/feeling were you aiming for, and did you accomplish it? What is your full name, and city/state location?
2. (NEXT QUESTIONS ARE FOR THE EXPERTS) Is the “tech-free living room” a viable trend? To what extent?
3. How and when did this trend arise? To what factors can you attribute it?
4. What is the goal of this approach? What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of this approach?
5. What tips (try to provide at least 3 with details) would you provide to homeowners who are considering a living room makeover/remodel where they want to rid the room of technology and electronic clutter? How can one best create a living room space free of digital distractions?
6. If they are removing electronics/devices from the living room, where are more appropriate rooms/areas to now store/display these devices? Why?
7. Any other thoughts, tips or suggestions on this topic?
8. What is your full name, title, company, city/state location, and email address?
