Hello. My name is Erik Martin and I am a reporter for HomeStyle, a nationally syndicated home improvement/design section published weekly in newspapers across the country (you can view HomeStyle article examples at omaha.com/inspiredhome).
I’m looking to interview home improvement/remodeling experts, interior designers/decorators, and homeowners for the following article:PET-CORATING: How to decorate/remodel your home so that it's amenable to your dog or cat, too. This story would examine the trend of “pet-corating”—designing/decorating/remodeling your interiors to better accommodate your cat or dog and also show off your animal love. Below is a list of questions I’m seeking answers to. I can either conduct a phone or email interview (with the latter, please email me back full-sentence written responses that I can use as quotes). My deadline is nooncentral time, Monday, July 11.
QUESTIONS:1. (THIS QUESTION FOR HOMEOWNERS ONLY) Why did you decorate/design your home or any of its living spaces to better accommodate your pet and display your love for your pet? What exactly did you do (provide details about the room, design scheme, materials/colors chosen, special pet-friendly amenities installed, etc.)? What is the name, breed and age of your pet(s)? What tips would you provide other homeowners who may be considering a “pet-corating” project? What is your full name, and city/state location?2. (NEXT QUESTIONS ARE FOR THE EXPERTS) How do you define “pet-corating”? Why is this a popular trend among some homeowners with pets today?3. Can you provide a few real world or hypothetical examples of “pet-corating” projects that transform a room or living space(s) into pet-friendly interiors and/or display the owner’s love of animals/pets?4. If you were “pet-corating” your own living space, what would you do? Please provide details about design scheme, colors, materials, amenities to be installed, décor, furnishings, etc. How much would this project roughly cost for a do it yourselfer vs. hiring a professional, including materials and labor?5. Do you recommend that homeowners hire a designer to guide them before attempting a petcorating project? Why?6. What are some important things to consider before attempting a petcorating project (e.g., how it will affect resale value, life/age of your pet, harmonizing with other rooms, etc.)?7. Any other thoughts, tips or suggestions on this topic? 8. What is your full name, title, company, city/state location, and email address?
