Hello. My name is Erik Martin and I am a reporter for HomeStyle, a nationally syndicated home improvement/design section published weekly in newspapers across the country (visit omaha.com/inspiredhome for samples). I’m looking to interview interior designers, home improvement experts, realtors/agents, and homeowners for the following topic: UGLY GOES OUT THE WINDOW: HOW TO DECORATE/IMPROVE A ROOM THAT OFFERS AN UNATTRACTIVE VIEW OUTSIDE THE WINDOW. This story will explore creative strategies for upgrading a room that suffers from a less-than-desirable landscape beyond the room’s window. Below is a list of questions I’m seeking answers to. I can either conduct a phone or email interview (with the latter, please email me back full-sentence written responses that I can use as quotes). My deadline is noon central time, Tuesday, August 9.
QUESTIONS:1. (THIS QUESTION FOR HOMEOWNERS ONLY) Which room in your home features an unattractive outdoor view from the window? What can you see outside the window? What did you do inside the room and/or to the window to distract from this ugly view? Any tips for fellow homeowners on what they can do to upgrade a room with an ugly outdoor view? What is your full name, and city/state location?2. (NEXT QUESTIONS ARE FOR THE EXPERTS) How can an ugly outdoor view (that can’t be changed) from a room’s window significantly affect the appeal, comfort and look for that room? How can it affect resale value? Why is it important that homeowners do something to distract from that ugly view?3. What tips should homeowners consider to improve the look from the actual window(s) (e.g., add different window treatments, tinted film on the glass, swap out with stained glass, etc.)?4. What tips should homeowners consider to improve the rest of the room (e.g., furniture placement, new paint color(s), adding plants or special décor, etc.)?5. Is there anything homeowners should avoid attempting here? Any “don’ts”?6. Any other thoughts, tips or suggestions on this topic?7. What is your full name, title, company, city/state location, and email address?
