I am a reporter for a nationally syndicated real estate section published weekly in newspapers across the country. I’m looking to interview real estate experts for the following article, with a deadline of Jan. 9, 2015:
STORY: WHY SELLERS MAY WANT TO CONSIDER ADDING A HOME WARRANTY PROTECTION PLAN TO ENTICE BUYERS. A home sales study of customers conducted by SCIC member company American Home Shield, published in mid 2014 (details at tinyurl.com/opao6l4), found that homes covered by protection plans spend almost 11 fewer days on the market on average, and sell for more than $2,300 higher on average than homes sold without a home warranty. The ability to transfer a home warranty to new owners helps create added incentives for buyers. This story would examine the pros and cons of adding a home warranty policy (if you're a seller) and how to shop for one, and what buyers should be looking for in a warranty. I’m looking to interview real estate agents, lenders, brokers, and other housing experts for this article. Please e-mail me back your interest, availability and phone number. My deadline is noon central time, Friday, Jan. 9, 2015.
QUESTIONS: 1. What is a home warranty protection plan, what does it typically cover, for what term/length, and what does it typically cost? 2. Why should home sellers consider adding a home warranty protection plan to entice buyers?3. How should sellers shop for and decide on a warranty plan? What features/coverages/criteria should they consider before purchasing?4. What should sellers know about these warranty plans and what to look for in a warranty plan before buying a home with one? Should they insist on/negotiate for a home with a warranty plan included?5. In your opinion, are these warranty plans worth it, or are they overrated/overpriced? Why?6. Any other thoughts, tips, suggestions on this topic that I failed to ask about?7. What is your full name, title, company, and location where you are based?
