I am a reporter for a nationally syndicated real estate section published weekly in newspapers across the country. I’m looking to interview real estate, tax, and remodeling experts for the following article: STORY: HOMEOWNERS MAY PAY MORE FOR A/C AND WATER HEATER UPGRADES IN 2015: SEER standards increased from 13 to 14 early this year, equating to a price rise of up to 65% for homeowners seeking a new air conditioning system in 2015; additionally, new efficiency regulations set to begin in April may cost you plenty if you’re considering purchasing a new water heater (visit tinyurl.com/kw9pbps for details). For this story, I’m seeking to interview HVAC experts, professional remodelers, and real estate professionals. Below is a list of questions I’m seeking answers to. I can either conduct a phone or email interview (with the latter, please email me back full-sentence written responses that I can use as quotes). My deadline is noon central time, Friday, March 6, 2015.
QUESTIONS:1. (Please visit tinyurl.com/kw9pbps for details before answering) What are SEER standards, why are they important, and why have they recently increased from 13 to 14 for A/C systems? What are the benefits/advantages of this SEER increase to homeowners?2. How will this affect prices for new A/C systems (give an example: e.g., if a 2014 typical A/C system cost $___ to buy and have installed, how much will a comparable system featuring a SEER rating of 14 now cost that same homeowner? 3. What tips can you give homeowners who are seeking a new A/C system in 2015: what should they be looking for, how/where should they shop, and what else should they be considering besides the final price?4. Regarding water heaters, why are new government mandates going into effect in April 2015 that will force manufacturers of gas, electric or oil-fired water heaters to increase their efficiency? Why is this a needed/important increase?5. How will this affect prices for a new hot water heater? (give an example: e.g., if a 2014 typical hot water heater cost $___ to buy and have installed, how much will a comparable system with the new higher efficiency rating now cost that same homeowner?)6. Will homeowners with existing older water heaters, who aren’t seeking an upgrade yet, be forced to convert their old ones into higher efficiency ones via new parts (e.g., a PVC flue/new piping)? Why? When? How much will this cost them? What are the deadlines to comply with this, and does it affect all Americans?7. What tips can you give homeowners, who are seeking to upgrade to a new or convert their old hot water heater: what should they be looking for, how/where should they shop, and what else should they be considering besides the final price?8. Do either upgrades (higher efficiency A/C system or higher efficiency hot water heater) provide homeowners with any rebates or tax deductions of note?9. Any other tips, suggestions or recommendations for homeowners on these A/C and/or hot water heater systems?10. What is your full name, title, company, city/state location, and email address?
