Seeking Technology Media Experts

Request:

Econtent Magazine (www.econtentmag.com)

Request Date:

04/01/2015 11:01am

Deadline (Eastern Time):

04/07/2015 01:00pm

Category of Expertise:

General
I am a freelance writer for Econtent Magazine (www.econtentmag.com). I’m seeking to interview digital publishers, electronic content providers, and experts in technology media on the following topic:

WHAT PUBLISHERS CAN LEARN FROM THE DEMISE OF GIGAOM AND OTHER TECH MEDIA PLAYERS. This story will explore the tech media industry shakeout observed in recent months, as evidenced by the shuttering of sites like ReadWrite, AOL’s TUAW and Joystiq, and, most recently, GigaOm, and examine what digital publishers and electronic content providers can learn from their demise. Below is a list of questions I’m seeking answers to for this story. I prefer to conduct an email interview (whereby you send me written answers to my questions below that I can use as quotes in my story, which is often easier and ensures no accidental misquoting), although I can likely accommodate a phone interview if you prefer. My deadline is noon central, Tuesday, April 7. Please e-mail me back your interest and availability or your typed up answers to these questions:

QUESTIONS
1. Were the deaths of GigaOm, Joystiq, TUAW, and/or ReadWrite surprising to you in any way? Why/why not?
2. What did GigaOm, in particular, do wrong? How could it have staved off elimination in any way?
3. What other fairly recent shuttering of tech media players can you cite that are noteworthy here?
4. Are tech media titles in general fickle, vulnerable businesses in some way? Is the rapidly changing nature of technology and the news these sites cover to blame in any way for why many of these tech media publishers don’t survive?
5. What are the lessons to be learned here from other digital publishers and e-content providers, especially those in the tech media space? What can they do or should be doing to avoid these same fates?
6. How will publishers/content providers need to evolve and adapt to survive and thrive?
7. What’s your prediction: are we likely to see more tech media deaths in the near future? Why? Is this just a natural e-circle of life kind of thing—a necessary survival of the fittest, or is this a bad omen for digital publishing/e-content in general?
8. Any other thoughts, comments or ideas on this topic you’d like to add?
9. What is your full name, title, company, and city/state headquarters?
