Real Estate/Mortgage
I am a reporter for a nationally syndicated real estate section published weekly in newspapers across the country. I’m looking to interview real estate agents, mortgage professionals, and other housing experts for the following article:
STORY: DESPITE RISING VALUES, NEGATIVE EQUITY CONTINUES TO GROW: Home values are rising, but negative equity is rising in 21 of the 50 largest housing markets (per a new Zillow report; visit tinyurl.com/ket8pom for details). This article will explore why negative equity takes longer to rebound than regular home values, and actions that underwater homeowners can take to try to make the situation better. Below is a list of questions I’m seeking answers to. I can either conduct a phone or email interview (with the latter, please email me back full-sentence written responses that I can use as quotes). My deadline is noon central time, Thursday, April 16, 2015.

QUESTIONS:
1. What findings from this new Zillow study particularly surprised you, and why?
2. What is “negative equity” and why is it important for homeowners to understand this term/concept, especially as a key housing market indicator?
3. Why are owners of the lowest valued homes most likely to be stuck in a negative equity situation, and why is this problem worsening for them and for the market in general?
4. Why has this been such a huge problem and continue to be a huge problem? Why does negative equity take longer to rebound from than regular home values?
5. What actions can homeowners who are underwater and who have negative equity take to help resolve their situations? What would you recommend? Please try to provide a hypothetical scenario with a homeowner (indicate location, type of home, equity situation, mortgage amt. owed, etc.)
6. Any other thoughts, tips or suggestions on this topic?
7. What is your full name, title, company, city/state location, and email address?
