I am a writer with ValuePenguin (www.valuepenguin.com), a site that provides consumers with helpful articles and information on financial topics. I’m looking to interview auto insurance agents, claims adjusters, attorneys and other industry professionals for the following article:
ARTICLE: DOES MY AUTO INSURANCE COVER DAMAGE CAUSED BY NATURAL DISASTERS? This article will explore the exceptions to comprehensive coverage and investigate to what extent car insurance will cover natural disasters like hurricane, flood, tornado and earthquake. Below is a list of questions I’m seeking answers to. I can either conduct a phone or email interview (with the latter, please email me back full-sentence written responses that I can use as quotes). My deadline is noon central time, Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015.
QUESTIONS:
1. What natural disasters and/or “acts of God” do most auto insurance policies typically cover/not cover and why? (e.g., hurricane, tornado, flood, earthquake, etc.)
2. What are the common exceptions to comprehensive coverage? What are occasions when drivers are denied claims coverage because this particular "act of God" is out of the question? Does the driver have any recourse they can pursue?
3. If an auto policy doesn’t cover some of these events, can the driver purchase a rider/additional coverage that will protect him in these circumstances? How much extra does this type of coverage cost (for each type of natural disaster not otherwise covered)?
4. What are some auto insurance tips related to this topic you would recommend, especially for people living in states where the disasters are more prone to happen? What should they do to ensure adequate protection from natural disasters intrinsic to their areas? (e.g., if they live in a flood zone, are there any preventive/precautionary tips you can suggest?)
5. Do you have any statistics/data that illustrate this topic in any way? Please cite the source of the data.
6. What is your full name, title, degrees/credentials, company, city/state location, and email address?
