Hello. My name is Erik Martin and I am a reporter for a nationally syndicated real estate section published weekly in newspapers across the country (see current examples atgmnews.com/?s=%22by+erik+j.+martin%22). I’m looking to interview realtors/agents, mortgage/lending professionals, buyers/sellers, and other housing experts for the following article:
DITCH THE DORM AND PURCHASE A PROPERTY FOR YOUR COLLEGE STUDENT. This story would examine the pros and cons of buying a residence for your college student to occupy, instead of them living in campus-owned housing, that you could also use in the future as a flex property that you can flip, occupy as a second home, or rent out to strangers. The story would include tips from experts on what to do and what to avoid with this option. Below is a list of questions I’m seeking answers to. I can either conduct a phone or email interview (with the latter, please email me back full-sentence written responses that I can use as quotes). My deadline is noon central, Monday, Sept. 12.

QUESTIONS:
1. (QUESTION #1 IS FOR BUYERS/OWNERS): Why, when, how and where did you purchase a residence for your college student? What kind of property? Why did you choose this option over a dorm/rental unit? What were the pros and cons of this decision? What do you plan to do with the property after he/she graduates? What did you learn from this experience? What related tips can you provide to other families with a college student considering purchase a college residence? What’s your name, age, and city/state location?
2. (NEXT QUESTIONS ARE FOR PROFESSIONALS) Why is purchasing a college residence for your college student worth considering vs. renting/living in a dorm? Why now?
3. Which candidates best fit the criteria for this scenario (e.g., those with great credit, plenty of extra funds/savings, etc.)? Which candidates do not fit the criteria?
4. Can/should the student have any ownership (e.g., name on the title/deed) or “skin in the game” (e.g., help pay the mortgage, perform maintenance, etc.)?
5. What can/should the family do with the property after the student graduates? Your suggestions?
6. What should families thinking about this option consider and research carefully before purchasing? What should they avoid?
7. Any other thoughts, tips or suggestions on this topic?

8. What is your full name, title, company, city/state location, and email address?
