Established in 1902, Idaho's World Famous Hot Pools and Olympic Swimming Complex entertain hundreds of thousand of people every year. On the way to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, the springs are a favorite stop-over and are fast becoming one of the premier destinations in the Intermountain West.
Two and a half million gallons of odor free water flow through the five outdoor pools every day. The springs well up from the pool bottom at 1120F and cool to 1020F. This flow ensures that clean, pure water is exchanged in the pools every two hours. The geothermal water is not only used for recreation it is also used for heating sidewalks and buildings during the cold winter months. It is used for heating the million gallons of water in the modern Olympic Swimming complex and water park, keeping the pool and an enjoyable 900F. Odor free and all natural - lends itself to a healthy vacation.
Located in southeastern Idaho, the village of Lava Hot Springs offers lodging, dining and dancing and all the amenities the vacationer expects from big name resorts. However, this community offers an affordable family vacation, year round.
Mark Lowe is the Executive Director of the Lava Hot Springs Foundation. He received a BS Degree in Microbiology from the University of Maryland, a Masters of Public Administration from Idaho State University. He has an extensive background in public health, environmental regulation, marketing and public relations. He and his staff have completed an expansion and upgrading of both the hot pool and swimming pool facilities. Due to these improvements and effective marketing, attendance at the facilities has increased over 50% in the past ten years.
