A former national-class athlete, Sisson was born and raised in Boothbay Harbor, ME. He later attended the Phillips Exeter Academy and WilliamsCollege (Williamstown, MA) where he studied a “pre-med” curriculum, eventually receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Biology.
Following college, Sisson continued devoting extensive time to athletics as part of his personal health and fitness regimen. Among his many diverse achievements, he finished fifth in the 1980 USA National Marathon Championships (2:18:01) which qualified him for the US Olympic Marathon Trials; finished fourth in the 1982 Hawaii Ironman Triathlon; was a member of the world record indoor 24-hour relay team; and held the world record for the vertical one-mile climb on a Versa-Climber.
Sisson’s accomplishments in triathlon, combined with his health and science background, led to his selection as Executive Director of the U.S. Triathlon Federation and later his appointment as Chairman of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) Anti-Doping Commission and its liaison to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Medical Commission. In that post, which he held for 13 years, he was responsible for overseeing drug testing and anti-doping education of triathletes around the world. Sisson and Carrie, his wife of twenty years, have two children and reside in Malibu, CA.
