Fashion Network-Seattle, is an online platform with the dual purpose of both exposing, educating and empowering the Seattle fashion industry, and informing the local industry on international trends and resources. Seattle’s fashion industry is relatively large ($8.6 billion industry in 2009) and very vibrant but relatively unrecognized as a key player. Fashion Network-Seattle is out to change that.
Run by two dynamic minority businesswomen and fashionistas, Fashion Network-Seattle has grown leaps and bounds since founded in 2009 by having a single and hyper-localized focus and its blog section was named best fashion blog by Seattle Magazine in 2010.
As the face of Fashion Network-Seattle, Ms. Foster oversees the creative direction of all editorial and video content and serves as editor for coverage. Through her love of people and fashion, she has built an amazing network of connections to the professionals in the fashion industry in Seattle over the past year.
Shalonne Foster is a native Seattleite and fashionista who believes that image is everything. After putting her business degree to work for 8 years at a large Fortune 500 company, she was bitten by the entrepreneurial bug and started two businesses: Posh Productions, an event planning company; and Foster Design Group, an Interior Design business, before turning her hand to the fashion industry with Fashion Network-Seattle. After traveling in 2008 to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, the Hamptons and throughout Europe, and attending both the Paris and New York Fashion Weeks, she realized what was missing from her life was that strong connection to the fashion scene. She returned home and started to build that connection with Fashion Network-Seattle.
"This has really been a labor of love for me and I am ever grateful to my wonderful team, as well as the depth of creative talent in the area," says Ms. Foster. "We are really more than an online 'fashion magazine' - we exist to challenge and expand the boundaries of what fashion means to Seattleites."
Cynarah Ellawala is a marketing veteran with over 12 years of experience working on brands such as Lancôme, Matrix Hair Products, Murad, PetsMart, The Clorox family of products and Microsoft. Cynarah’s love of fashion started at an early age, when she began modeling in her teens. She considered becoming a fashion designer before deciding to focus on something more “serious” and earned a college degree in Enviromental Studies and Public Policy instead. But things just have a funny way of coming back full circle, and a renewal in her interest in fashion and couture has lead to a desire to make a difference in the fashion industry.
"Our goal is two-fold: first, we strive to serve as a global launching platform for local designers as our viewers are coming from all parts of the world. Second is to be a resource for consumers to familiarize themselves with local talent in order to build a reputable and profitable industry in Seattle," says Ms. Ellawala.
