I've always had a love for skincare products. Maybe it's from a longtime obsession with old movies and the desire to be a "classic" beauty, or it's the fear of being the smelly kid in class, who knows! I remember going through my Moms antique vanity, playing with the various potions and serums, all in a desperate attempt to get *that* type of skin...the flawless, immaculate complexion that taunted me in magazines. You see, I always had bad skin...I remember being in 4th grade science class and a boy asking me if all Irish people had so many pimples. You can imagine my mortification!
Plagued with oily skin since the very beginning I sought out any and every remedy I could, all promising to be THE cure. None of them were, of course. Be it from the department store or the dermatologist they all seemed to be temporary fixes that never gave me lasting results.
And then came Maya….
Well, sort of. First came my original company in 2004...really simple concoctions with various sugar scrubs and body creams. The formulas were all simple but helped me to indulge in my love affair with beauty. Then came Metropolis. I opened Metropolis Soap Co. in January of 2009...the aesthetic was funky, the soaps were killer (still are!), and the real joy for me was the formulating. I began to experience the beauty of formulating with different oils and herbs, learning their properties and qualities. Many of the products I kept for myself, hoarding them away as I began to formulate products that were more than just pretty soaps...they were saving my skin!
Maya Essentials was for me, and now it's for you.
These products are the fruits of 5+ years of research, labor, and love. I personally use all of these products, along with my (very thankful!) family members. Each ingredient serves a distinct purpose in every formula and was selected solely for it's skin-benefitting qualities.
