Rev. George Walters-Sleyon is a preacher, author, singer/songwriter, recording artist and Doctoral student at Boston University where he earned his Masters of Divinity and Post-graduate Masters in Sacred Theology in Philosophy, Theology and Social Ethics/public policy.
Rev. Walters is the author of: Locked Up and Locked Down: Multitude Lingers in Limbo: a theological and existential analysis of the high rate of incarceration of black men in the United States prison system. Locked Up and Locked Down is descriptive, analytic and prescriptive. He is working on his second book: Blacks on the Market: Profit, Power and Abuse in US Prisons, to be released in the fall. He has spoken at Harvard University on the topic: Restorative Justice and Faith, and at the New England School of Law on: Why Are There So Many Black Boys in Jails and at the National Urban league 2011 National Convention in Boston/MA on the topic: Saving Our Sons: The Surviving and Thriving of African America Males in America.
He is the founder and director of The Center for Church and Prison: a resource and research center working towards strategic solution development and intervention in the high incarceration and recidivism rates especially for black men and youth in the United States prison system.
Rev. Walters is a gospel recording artist with two gospel albums. The first; Who Is He? is an album of eight original gospel songs written by Rev. Walters. His second album: Hold On You Will Survive is a blend of gospel spirituals, contemporary and favorite hymns. One of his songs, God’s Been Good to Me was nominated Gospel Single of the Year by Tiffany Gospel Production in 2004 in New York.
