Washington, DC - Terrence Keaney, MD, FAAD, is a pioneer and advocate for the “personalization” of dermatology. He recognizes the importance of customizing dermatologic care based on the individual characteristics, needs, and preferences of his patients. The first step in personalization is a patient’s gender because of its influence on anatomy, skin function, and behavior. Whether treating hair loss, aging skin, acne, rosacea, or skin cancer concerns, Dr. Keaney designs treatment for the patient’s skin, lifestyle, and preferences. In order to provide tailored treatments, Dr. Keaney adopts the latest technology to assist in skin imaging and treatment. He utilizes the latest software to quantify signs of aging and disease and offers cutting edge laser, light, and energy based technologies to provide superior results for both men and women. Dr. Keaney has a state-of-the-art practice in which he can focus on his priorities of personalized, preventive skin care using innovative dermatology techniques and products. His specialized training in cutaneous laser, hair, and dermatologic surgery makes Dr. Keaney a unique and expert opinion in dermatology, skin care, and aesthetics.

Dr. Keaney remains active in dermatologic research and education. In addition to research on the role of gender in designing aesthetic and dermatologic treatments, Dr. Keaney is currently spearheading multiple studies on cosmetic injectables, and he is often one of the first physicians to offer new laser and technological devices in his practice. He has authored over 25 articles in the leading dermatology journals. Dr. Keaney’s expertise has earned him invitations to many dermatology and aesthetic conferences where he has delivered over 100 national and international lectures. Dr. Keaney is one of nine Master Injectors where he teaches physicians from around the country the latest techniques in the use of Botox and filler products. He is also a Brand Spokesman for Dove Men + Care, the leading male skincare brand. Dr. Keaney is often invited to discuss the latest dermatologic developments in the media with features in the New York Times, GQ magazine, Esquire magazine, Town & Country Magazine, The Washingtonian, Men’s Health Magazine, Men’s Fitness Magazine, Details Magazine, Fox News, and the Washington Business Journal.

Dr. Keaney is a local Washingtonian having graduated from St. Albans School in Washington, DC. He was a varsity lacrosse player at Duke University where he was voted all-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Academic All-ACC. Graduating from the University of Virginia Medical School at the top of his class, Dr. Keaney was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) national medical honor society. His comprehensive dermatology training included a residency at the University of Miami, a clinical research fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, and a fellowship in laser surgery here in Washington. Dr. Keaney is currently Assistant Clinical Faculty of Dermatology at George Washington University (GWU) and Howard University. He enjoys teaching and mentoring dermatology residents while directing the cosmetic dermatology curriculum for the GWU Dermatology residency program.
