Edna Kaplan brings more than 20 years of experience in clinical relations, adoption strategies and healthcare PR to the KOGS Communication team. Author of Practice Made Perfect: The Physician’s Guide to Communication & Marketing, she has worked with established and emerging healthcare clients including Hewlett-Packard Medical Products Group; Harvard School of Public Health; Medivance; ZOLL Medical, Cambridge Heart, and many others including hospitals, geriatric services providers; and medical practices.

Under Edna’s leadership, KOGS has won six top PR industry awards, including PRSA’s top awards, the Silver Anvil and Silver Anvil Award of Excellence, for strategic work and extraordinary results. Edna also worked on accounts in healthcare, technology, and education at agencies KOGS Communication;
Nicolazzo & Associates; Tom Davis & Co. and at euroPResence USA, where she opened and was CEO of the European firm’s Boston office. She is well versed on health care issues, including consumer-directed health plans, and matters of concern to older Americans. Her monthly newspaper column, “Aging & Elder Care News,” ran for seven years.

Prior to entering the PR field in 1990, Edna had broad health care experience. She worked at New York University Medical School’s pharmacology department; was a Research Associate executing psychopharmacology research at Downstate Medical Center funded by Pfizer and other major pharmaceutical companies; and held a similar position at American Institutes for Research, where she worked on various CDC and NIH-funded research projects and health campaigns. She was also the office manager of a hospital-based urban medical practice.

Edna holds an MS degree from Boston University’s College of Communications and a BA from Brooklyn College. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America.

Her pro bono activities include advising the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship and serving on the Board of National Tay-Sachs and Allied Diseases. She also was a long-time Board member, Executive Board member, and chair of the marketing, leadership development, and several other committees at a not-for-profit community organization. She will serve on the PRSA-Boston Executive Committee as Treasurer beginning January 2014.
