Gisselle Mencia is a bilingual entertainment attorney and founder of Ahnjel Entertainment Group, LLC (AEG), a full-service boutique legal services and artist management consulting firm based in Los Angeles, California.
Based on this philosophy and utilizing the network she has built over her career to leverage opportunities, Ms. Mencia founded AEG. Ms. Mencia’s practice focuses on the entertainment areas of film, television, sports, music and book publishing, as well as branding artist/business development and intellectual property matters. Ms. Mencia began her legal career in the Business and Legal Affairs at NeoPets, Inc., the #1 online virtual pet/gaming website that has a virtual pet community reaching 70 million people. While at NeoPets, Ms. Mencia was responsible for the hundreds of trademark matters and copyright registrations relating to the protection of NeoPets’ vast collection of intellectual property and all infringement and settlement matters related thereto.
Ms. Mencia moved onto work as an attorney at Univision Music Group (UMG), the #1 Spanish record label in the United States at the time and home to over 120 top artists in the Regional Mexican, Pop, Hip-Hop and Reggaeton genres such as Los Temerarios, Jennifer Peña, Marco Antonio Solis, Los Tigres del Norte, Conjunto Primavera, Jenni Rivera and many more. At UMG, Ms. Mencia was the supervising attorney for 40+ artists, requiring her to service them in all business and legal related matters, including their initial signing, producer, publishing and many more agreements, infringement and trademark matters, master use and synchronization licenses, distribution agreements and several other matters on a domestic and international level.
Following her time at UMG and immediately preceding the opening of AEG, Ms. Mencia served as the Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs for LATV Networks, LLC (“LATV”), the nation's first bilingual/bicultural entertainment and music network distributed via digital multicast. A pioneer in bicultural youth broadcasting, LATV has been in the Los Angeles market since 2001 and launched nationally on April 23, 2007. LATV also owns LatiNation, LLC which nationally syndicates the highly popular programs American Latino TV and LatiNation. While at LATV, Ms. Mencia was involved in several high profile multicast distribution negotiations with such powerhouse station groups as Cox Communications, Post-Newsweek and Tribune Broadcasting.
In her spare time, Ms. Mencia is an avid volunteer for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles and has been designated a Wish Superstar for having granted an inordinate number of wishes. Additionally, she loves to read, write short stories and is a major sports fan.
Ms. Mencia graduated from UCLA in only three years with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Sociology and received a Juris Doctor from Southwestern University School of Law. She is fluent in both written and spoken Spanish.
