Way Back Weddings: Bouquets of the 20s
Welcome to the roaring 20s, a time of prosperity and flamboyance. This decade was really marked with over the top shows of wealth and decadence. Weddings were especially an occasion when people really wanted to showcase extravagant designs, with long veils cascading to the floor, gowns covered in lace, and flower arrangements so big it’s a wonder they weren’t tripping over petals and stems!
A major trend for bouquets of the 1920s was to have long trailing ribbons and bows attached to the flowers. This created what we now refer to as an “airy” look. Often times, brides would also choose to add an abundance of foliage to their bouquets, that trailed all the way to the floor. We still see requests for cascades once in a while, but certainly nothing like this! Some bouquets even contained more greenery than actual flowers. These bridal bouquets were the focal point in most weddings. Everyone’s eyes were automatically drawn to the dramatic arrangement of ribbons, leaves, and flowers before they even noticed the bride herself!
Of course we don’t see requests for bouquets such as these nowadays, however we do occasionally see centerpieces containing tons of unique greenery and just a few focal point flowers such as Dahlias or Peonies.
