Role Model Mom: Living the Life of Your Dreams

Mother’s can’t deny it: motherhood is truly a satisfying role and many women have said that this is the best job in the world. However, many ambitious, working, entrepreneurial mothers do feel disconnected from their dreams, as they are often overshadowed my maternal obligations and duties. When a mother’s life starts to just become all about her family and children, she loses sight of her own passions and dreams.
Nonetheless, a mom who knows how to follow her dreams and achieve something besides being a mother is showing her children the importance of following your dreams and working to achieve something. Below, you will find seven techniques that mothers can use to move forward and experience a life beyond motherhood.
1. Take time out for yourself. Date yourself and spend some time alone or spend time with a few of your friends. This will help you discover yourself. It will help you gather your thoughts and truly envision those things you want to accomplish.

2. Make personal development a goal. Giving up your dreams for your children’s isn’t exactly the best way to show them that they should strive to achieve their dreams. Show them that they should and can work to maximize their potential.
3. Realize that you have other talents. You might be a great mom, but your abilities don’t end there. You have other talents and skills that could be great if only they were honed and used properly. Pursue your passions: take classes, use your free time to explore, or read to gain more knowledge on something you are interested in.

4. Don’t be afraid. Most moms feel that because they have been mothers for so long they’ve forgotten how it is in the real world. Don’t be afraid to go out there and do something different for a change. Get started. According to Carl Mathis’s book Life is What You Make It, use your current situation to motivate yourself and jumpstart a whole new life.

5. Do not try to fill in the void with material things. The biggest mistake you can make in trying to fulfill your penchant for achievement is buying things to make you feel better. You’ll most likely end up buying things you won’t want or necessarily need. Know that material things will not satisfy you spiritually.

6. Forgive yourself. Don’t be too hard on yourself when you make a mistake. Everybody fails in something at one point or another and you just have to pick yourself up and move on.

7. Embrace spontaneity and the moment. Living in the moment can be a truckload of fun. Accept those impromptu invitations for a cocktail, attend a social event you’ve been invited to, or simply enjoy the company of other people. Do not look at your day focusing on the ugly things that occur; instead be thankful for those fleeting moments of joy and happiness.
