Supermodel was a name that stuck to me during my ten years as a bus driver for the Chicago Transit Authority. When I was diagnosed with lupus in March 3, 2011, I became known as A Supermodel With Lupus. It was just a nickname that stuck. It's been over a year that I've been diagnosed and I w...

You Don't Have Time To Be Sick

You pull the covers from over your head in the morning and it hits you like stale coffee breath. You're sick. When did this happen? Sure last night you had a little sniffle and an itch in the back of your throat but it was nothing that concerned you.

As you throw on an extra blanket to fight the chills you look over at the bedroom clock. You have just enough time to let your boss know that you won't be in today. I mean, there is no way. How can you possibly be expected to leave the house in this condition?

You get out of bed, still wrapped in your blanket and head for the medicine cabinet to see what you have to combat this mysterious cold that has attacked your system..literally overnight.

Theraflu and three aspirin should be enough to do the job. Make a cup of hot tea and hop back into the bed to watch all those crappy Judge StankAssAttitude shows that you never seem to have time for in the mornings.

(It makes me wonder why so many people sign up to do those judge shows, take time out of their schedule to be told you're an idiot on national TV. Hell I could do it for you and it will take a lot less time) I digress.

That extra dose of Theraflu put you to sleep like a cranky toddler after lunch and now you're feeling slightly better. Perhaps one more day off and a quick doctor's visit for that all important doctor's note and in a few days, you'll probably forget that you were even sick.

It will be referred to as that "thing" that you came down with when you make it in to work Monday morning while your coworkers rolled their eyes at you, jealous that you aced yourself a four day weekend while they were left to pick up the slack.

Now, imagine your alarm clock going off in the morning and you were hit with a fever, chills, and pain.EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Your boss doesn't want to hear it because YOU'RE ALWAYS SICK! Not exactly a newsflash. You don't have Theraflu or aspirin in your house because are you kidding me? My pain laughs at aspirin and Theraflu hasn't worked since the 90's.

You have to make that all important decision of the day. Do you suck it up and go to work or just suck it up and go to work? Chances are even though you feel like falling asleep in the middle of the street, you could be a lot WORSE. Like organ failure.

You don't have time to be sick and frankly, neither do I. We all have things that we need to do on a daily basis and don't have time to chill out for a minute to be sick.

The big difference is at least one of us has "getting better" to look forward to.
