A View Of Book Reviews

You have sent a galley copy of your book to several people hoping for a review and you have even been on radio shows. Why are people not writing reviews for your book? How many times have you asked yourself this question?

I have a new question for you… Have you asked them? It really is all about Finding Your Voice.

Some authors want reviews but do not want to ask for the fear of asking someone to do something that they are too busy to do.

Facts:

If someone truly does not have the time to give you a review then they will not.

If someone does not want to give you a review then guess what? They will not!

But you are not going to know either of these things unless you ask.

I will never forget a conversation I had with one of my busy clients Thom Newcomb. I had asked Thom a series of questions but there was one he did not answer. I wondered why. I let a few weeks pass and I finally asked him about the question. His funny reply was,” I thought I answered that already.I answered that inside my head and I guess you did not hear that, did you?”.

I could not help but laugh. Thom deals with hundreds of clients and a nice size staff of financial advisors. Thom is busy! He also said he was glad I was not afraid to ask again.

Fact: “Those who do not ask sometimes receive but not as often as those who do.” -Michelle Colon-Johnson

If you are seeking to get reviews for your book or products craft a quick letter/email and send it to your contacts. And watch the reviews come pouring in.

Here is one we found to be quite successful:

Hi B!

We hope you enjoyed the interview with George Clooney on Dec 28th.

Part of what we do for our clients is seek out book reviews for them.

I was wondering if you would be so kind to go to Amazon and give {their book named here} a review. Of course only if you have time to do so, and feel that the book could benefit others.

Below is a link that takes you directly to the page. Thank you in advance! And thanks for having George as a guest on your show!

So blessed to have met you in 2013 and look forward to an awesome year in 2014 with you!

Much Love and Many Blessings!

Amazon Link: Finding Your Voice

We sent this out to a few radio hosts about a week to four weeks after they interviewed our clients and we had one client who received 4 reviews in one day. I would say that was a way to find the Value in the Follow Up.

People are so busy today in their own lives that they just can’t possibly remember to do everything. And most are delighted to help out in any way they can. You just have to ask.

Don’t fill their email boxes up with demands. Just a simple request will do. Long enough to make an impact and short enough to keep their attention.

Also remember things like the time of year it is. Is it the holidays?

Another thing is 1-4 weeks after they have read your book still keeps you and your book on their mind.

Chances are if they have read your book they are reading other’s books as well so ask for the review at the right time. When you are fresh on their mind!

Next time you are afraid to ask someone for something repeat these words: “There Is Value In The Follow Up. Find the time to remind.”
