The Death of Dreams

I am often asked this question that has so many in a conundrum: ‘how does one find or tap into what their passion is in life?’ My answer in most cases is this. “Stop sabotaging your potential by your negative self-talk.”

Sometimes I think that it is not life itself that brings about fatigue in so many of us. I believe that it is our never-ending thoughts that can lead us down the road of exhaustion. Our mind never stops. Even when we lay our heads on the pillow at night our brain is working overtime. We have so many thoughts running through our minds that at times it feels like we are about to go ‘out of our minds.’ So then how do we stop the incessant chatter going on in our brains? We don’t!

I mean let’s get serious here for a moment. Would you prefer to be brain dead or have constant activity going on in your noggin? These thoughts and ideas that run through your mind is a factual indication that you are alive. Celebrate and welcome the possibilities instead of viewing them as some sort of on-going punishment. What we are really talking about here is filtering through the junk so that we can really listen to what our mind is urging us to do. Mixed in with our daily thoughts are our desires and dreams. Where the problem lies is that we constantly push them down so deep inside of us that we forget we even had them to begin with.

Dreams are not there to taunt or torture us. The gift of dreams is that they come to us to guide us to our better self and better way of life. When someone tells me that they do not even know what they are passionate about I say, ‘BOLOGNA!’ Everyone is passionate about something. It is just that so many of us have become experts at self-talking ourselves out of our dreams. The whole ‘I can’t’ talk has clouded and put limitations on those desires.

You have heard that infamous line that states, ‘if you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all.’ Until you can start talking nicer to yourself and to your dreams then I strongly suggest that you STOP talking to yourself all together.
