I received an email requesting a quick review of the Seven Quality Management Tools that are available to quality personnel. Here is a quick look.1. Flowchart - Map of sequential steps and decision points in a process. A flow chart is a good tool for a team which helps the group to understand the work flow of a process.2. Check Sheet - This tool is often referred to as a "tally sheet" that gathers information on frequency / occurrences of defects or events.3. Cause and Effect Diagram - This tool is also known as the Ishakawa and Fishbone diagram. The...

Speed To Hire 2011Posted on February 24, 2011 For the past three years employers have enjoyed the option of taking their time, being very picky about things like culture fit, and the hiring process taking 3 to 4 weeks to reach the point of making an offer. Those days are officially over entirely. In the past two days I have lost three offers in a row to small startups. My clients were mid-sized employers who went through the laborious exercise of three visits for interviews, needless 10-14 day background checks, and unwise decisions to make lateral or near lateral offers. There was time for...

What is it the employees want to know? Why do they keep wanting to know it? Like any person a group of employees want to know where their place is in the scheme of things. They wish to know the job and how what each does affects the whole. They also wish to know they are doing it correctly and that the boss is pleased. Let's face it, every day they come in and basically do the same job so they need to get cues that it still is being done well.Employees wish to know that the boss is going to...

Karma is the concept of What goes around comes around. In other words you reap what you sow; positive actions are going to return to you in a loving and positive way, whereas unloving actions can bite you in the behind. No matter what religious belief you have the law of karma is always present. It is part of our soul experience in this life. This helps you to grow spiritually in a positive way or if you choose the unloving path to have no growth and experience many negative things coming back at you. Karma is...

Nationally, the average wedding costs between 20,000 and 30,000. In metropolitan areas like New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, the cost is far higher. I remember attending a wedding on Long Island that I am sure cost close to 250,000. Obviously, taste and standards vary from person to person. Obviously, the choice is yours, butI am not comfortable with spending in one night the equivalent of a new car (sometimes a very expensive new car) or the down payment on a home. Ultimately, I believe simplicity and imagination make a stronger statement than pretense. ...

I recently performed a wedding at a hospice in New York City. The bride and groom had two children and had lived together for seven years. His liver was failing, and no one was sure if he would live out the day. A special license was issued by a judge, and the wedding took place 15 minutes after it was valid. Family and friends gathered around as I read the required monitum, Before you are legally joined together in my presence and in the presence of these, your family and friends, I am bound to remind you...

This is the time of year that people declare what they want to change in their lives. Unfortunately the real-time decisions you make will likely be based on emotion and will supersede those you logically made on New Years. When the time comes to make the change, your emotions will trick you into finding a great rationalization for ignoring your stated intention. The good news is you can counteract this process with emotional awareness. You have to recognize what you are feeling in the moment and then make a conscious shift to feel something else.First you need to recognize if you are...

Women often have a smaller range of acceptable behaviors at work than men. If they are too nice, they are seen as weak or manipulative. If they are too aggressive, they are judged as acting like men or typical bitches. On the other hand, when men show traits of empathy, generosity and nurturing, they are credited for being progressive. If they are commanding, decisive and competitive, they are just a product of their testosterone.I'm not blaming men for this inequity. We are all to blame for holding on to some stereotypes and blocking change. That is an issue for a future post....

Illustrators Galore the LIBRARY STOREBy Jackie Siminitus, VP- CommunicationsCalifornia School Library AssociationThe American economy is crippling our schools and libraries in many ways. School library programs have been the target of budget hits in large part because parents and school officials are not aware of the changing role of the library in the digital age. These days, school librarians teach cyber safety and digital literacy, in addition to the academic research process. These skills are essential for success in college, careers, and life. Public librarians offer access to computers and wifi for all the mobile Internet devices....

It does not have to be narcotic to be addictive. When is the medical community ready to try other options for patients instead of drugs called medication? One more time a young woman from Tacoma, WA. Tina C., received pain pills to resolve hurting from a car accident. After seven months she realized she was addicted to the pills, which her doctor told her would not happen, because they were not narcotic. And her doctor replaced one drug with another which is merely "switching habits." Never was the woman asked if her family had a history of alcoholism. This is the...

Taking responsibility for your health is the greatest gift you can give yourself. Create your new life of wholeness and joy. A diagnosis does not have to be a life sentence. Most professionals offer counseling and medications for those experiencing depression, mental illness, and other difficulties. This is the typical trend. However, Russian biophysicist and molecular biologist Pjotr Garjajev now has scientifically proven that affirmations along with meditation/ hypnosis (another term for meditation) will raise consciousness, well-being, and even change DNA. Therefore, it is possible to overcome the chemical imbalance of a chronically depressed person. Healing the toxic chemistry created from...

Inflammation is a symptom of heart disease and not the cause. It is time to go beyond warning signs of inflammation and other symptoms to the root cause that created the condition. Emotional causes are not addressed in the current paradigm of medicine. However, with a new millennium, it is time to explore beyond the surface and into the unidentified emotional levels of our existence. People are energy fields with the energy moving through out the body. This can be called the vital life force, chi, spirit or other terms that mean that necessary element that gives us vitality. Without this, you may be negligent in the basic elements of living skills. This means that if you lack a loving background for growing up, you may be underdeveloped in your emotional maturity as well. Parents can only model their own emotional development and behaviors from their own family background. Most people fall somewhere in the middle of this spectrum." Many companies make an attempt to manage risks in their operations but really miss the value that a proactive risk plan can add.Risk Management can be defined as "Using managerial resources to integrate risk identification, risk assessment, risk prioritization, development of risk handling strategies and mitigation of risk to acceptable levels." Risk is ever-present in daily life. If you wish to cross a street, risk is present......and you may be hit by a car!Risk management works the same way in a corporation. "If we...

New documentation shows that billions of dollars spent on marriage education have shown no return on the investment, in fact, marriage continues a 40-year decline. The marriage education industry has maneuvered, lobbied and persuaded leaders of state and federal governments and the U.S. military to spend billions of taxpayer dollars attempting to disseminate its teachings to the masses with the daunting agenda to increase the ever-declining marriage rate and decrease the number of divorces. The US is the only Western nation that spends government money to support marriage. No other Western nation devotes as much cultural energy, public policy...

Whatever size or design your wedding party takes, you want your wedding ceremony to be the heart of the celebration. Long after you have forgotten the wine, and food, and music, you will remember the words you have said to each other. First, set objectives. As couples start to plan their wedding parties, they usually ask each other three questions:Where? When? How much?I THINK THE FIRST QUESTION SHOULD BE -WHY? A wedding party is inherently a decision to be inclusive -- not just to have family, friends and acquaintances present, but to include them in a moment of your...

Many of my coaching clients laugh when the concept of work/life balance is mentioned. Some have come to resent it because it implies that their overachieving ways are unhealthy and should be changed. Why should they feel guilty about not wanting to stare at their navels when they would rather be obsessively doing what they love? They insist that forcing themselves to balance their activities leaves them feeling more overwhelmed than refreshed. What's similar about those who reject the notion of work/life balance is the level of passion they have for their work. When they find their work gives them a strong...

As a retired teacher with over 50 years of teaching in the state of Washington, I have a big concern about the current path being taken by our school systems. Our country has departed from our pioneers in education: such as John Dewey, Jean Piaget, and Abraham Maslow. Friedrich Froebel's philosophy was that humans are creative beings. These educators provided an innovative process producing real education for pupils. Educators should be responsible for teaching students that learning is limitless. They must become cognizant of their own abilities and choose what works for them. I learned in my college statistics class that...
